Its now the 2nd semester of the masters degree and we have started out Experimental Games Design Module. The aim of the module is to broaden the definition of a game development project to include material and topics not normally necessarily considered games. Along with this module came 2 assignments that both link together.

The information bellow is taken from the assignment brief given to us.

Assignment 1 - Game concept pitch:

This assessment is all about how we pitch our game concept, which we will go on to develop in assignment 2.

This assignment consists of two elements:

Element 1: Pitch Document - (Created to accompany the Pitch presentation as a potentially printable file)

Element 2: Timed video presentation - to be delivered as a video with narration.

Assignment 2 - Working prototype:

This is an individual assignment that expands upon the pitch and pitch documentation we will present for assignment 1.

This assessment is based on providing us with the opportunity to build a prototype demonstrating the experimental game design that we will propose and pitch for Assessment 1, and record it's development.

This assignment consists of two elements:

Element 1 - A Submission - which consists of three elements.

  • A development Report - Covering the origin/research/creation/review and reflection of the experimental prototype game's development and iteration.

  • A short 2-3 min video, showing how the game is played and explaining it, is an essential part of this submission.

  • A working Prototype. A version of the game that can be played and evaluated. This element should include a document outlining any rules, controls or other information required to play/test and evaluate the prototype.

Element 2 - A Viva - which will occur in week 13 at which we will present our work and answer questions.

When it comes to documenting my design process, I will do it here in blog form.
